The congratulatory letter that US President Joe Biden sent to his counterpart, Aleksandar Vucic, on the occasion of the Citizenship Day of the Republic of Serbia, actually turned into a clear message that the White House chief conveyed to Kosovo.
Biden was adamant in his request. “Serbia’s aspirations towards the EU also depend on the progress of the full normalization of relations between Serbia and Kosovo, which, as you know, I believe should be based on mutual recognition. “The United States is ready to support you in your work in good faith to achieve this goal,” the letter said, according to the Serbian newspaper Danas.
Vucic did not respond directly to the US president for this message. But in an interview given to the Serbian media, he stated that he will never recognize the state of Kosovo.
“I do not think we should accept or recognize Kosovo’s independence. We must work with Kosovo Albanians for mutual cooperation. “But this is impossible because independence is everything they want to talk about,” he said.
Foreign diplomats have recently started walking between Pristina and Belgrade, hoping to give a new impetus to the stalled process at the point of dialogue between the two sides.
