Pope Francis led the procession of the Way of the Cross around the Colosseum on Good Friday, an important event for Catholic believers. The ritual took place according to tradition for the first time, two years after the pandemic when it was held with only a few people in St. Peter’s Square.
Along the Way of the Cross, the cross was carried through 14 stations by different families and at the thirteenth station was held by a Russian and a Ukrainian in a sign of reconciliation.
The two women – a friend and both nurses in Rome – carried the cross with the unquenchable hope of peace and reconciliation.
“God guide us to the path of peace. Inspire opponents to shake hands and enjoy mutual forgiveness. Disarm the hand of the brother raised against the brother, where there is hatred for reconciliation to flourish. ”
On Easter Sunday, the most important day in the Christian liturgical calendar, the pope will hold Mass in St. Peter’s Square and then deliver his message and blessing “Urbi et Orbi”.
