Greek police have seized more than 100kg of cocaine hidden in a container of bananas in the town of Veria (100km northwest of Thessaloniki).
The drugs, valued at tens of millions of euros, were hidden in containers of bananas that had arrived from Ecuador to Thessaloniki, twenty-four hours earlier.
From there it appears that he was transported by truck to a fruit trading company based in the city of Veria, where the authorities carried out the operation by arresting eight more people and confiscating the illegal cargo (total weight 100 kilograms and 700 grams).
Among those arrested are company representatives, customs agents and members of the transport company. They were sent to the Thessaloniki Criminal Prosecutor’s Office at noon on Thursday, while they requested and received a deadline to testify in the following days.
They have been prosecuted for drug trafficking, in groups, but also in particular.
Also last November, the customs officers of the Independent Public Revenue Authority, after cooperating with the Sub-Directorate of Narcotics Police in Thessaloniki, discovered in the city port a large consignment of cocaine of 82 kilograms hidden in a consignment of bananas.
This specific publication, according to the relevant order of the Prosecution, aims to protect society as a whole, minors, vulnerable or powerless groups of the population and to facilitate the realization of the state claim for the totality of crimes committed.
It is emphasized that the concrete publication has a deadline until 23.04.2022, according to the Order of the Prosecution. Beyond this time limit, the storage or reproduction of the publication of the above data is not allowed and is contrary to law, said in a press release of the police
