Greece gets the first 6 Rafale military planes, balances in the Aegean change

4 of the 6 aircraft are single-seater, while the other 2 are two-seater and will be used for the training of other pilots by French specialists.

The Greek government has given great importance to the arrival of the first 6 aircraft that are used, with a special ceremony attended by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Defense Minister with other officials.

The Rafale aircraft are part of a military agreement between France and Greece for the initial purchase of 18 aircraft of this type, 12 used and 6 new, worth 2.32 billion euros.

While the agreement expands with the purchase of 6 new aircraft, worth 1.07 billion euros, a total of 24 aircraft by the end of 2025. Like the 12 new aircraft, the 12 used are equipped with a state-of-the-art armament .
Rafale aircraft have a range of 2800 miles, large fuel tank, two engines and powerful electronic radar. They also have many advantages over the F-16, as they can analyze all the data from the available sensors and prepare tactics for the pilot.

Their strategic advantages are:

• See up to 200 km, monitor 40 targets simultaneously and can destroy the 8 most dangerous.

Their weapons are: METEOR missiles, with a range of over 100 km, the well-known SCALP missile also held by the Mirage 2000-5 with a range of 500 km and EXOCET missiles, with a long range of action against ships at sea.
Rafale can simultaneously have 14 weapons capable of thwarting any enemy action. After the recent tensions with Turkey, which during 2020 almost turned into military confrontations, official Athens believes that with the purchase of these aircraft and some French frigates, the military balance in the Aegean Sea changes significantly.
