“Serbia and Greece share a common vision for the European future of the Western Balkans,” Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said during a visit to Belgrade, stressing that Athens wanted to see Serbia as part of the EU.
The Greek Prime Minister reaffirmed his support for a successful agreement between Kosovo and Serbia for the normalization of their relations, emphasizing that Greece’s position on this issue has not changed.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis: I want to be clear on issues related to Kosovo and the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue. The position of my country does not change, it remains unchanged. But, as you said, we want to see the full normalization of your relations with Pristina and therefore we support the continuation of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, we support the efforts of the Special Representative of the European Union Lajcak to reach a comprehensive achievement and legal agreement.
Aleksandar Vucic: I think that Greece understands the position of Serbia, which is very important for us and I stressed that we do not want any frozen conflict. We seek a solution, but the solution must be a compromise and not imposed on Serbia and the Serbian people.
Mitsotakis stressed that an agreement between Pristina and Belgrade would be in the interest of both countries and would create a more favorable atmosphere of co-operation in the region, while the Western Balkans and its EU membership are top priorities for Greece on the agenda.
