At a time when the coronavirus pandemic seems to be fading, Sweden, which surprised with its decision not to quarantine at the height of the disease, has now recommended the fifth dose of the coronavirus vaccine to humans.
This booster dose, according to the Swedish health authorities, should be administered to persons at serious risk, including pregnant women and residents over the age of 65. The Swedish authorities think that Covid 19 should not be underestimated, as according to them, “there may be an increase in the number of infections in autumn and winter”.
“The vaccine is our most powerful tool to prevent serious illness and death,” said Swedish Social Affairs Minister Lena Hallengren, urging that the pandemic was not over. “In general, the risk is lower in people under the age of 65 who have been vaccinated with three doses, but it increases with age and varies depending on the group,” said Kerin Tegmark Wisell, head of the Swedish Public Health Agency.
Sweden chose not to impose restrictive measures on most of the pandemic. This country has never implemented isolation measures, nor has it closed businesses, leaving care to individual responsibility.
