The English port of Dover announced on Friday that it was in a critical condition, warning of long queues due to insufficient staffing of border controls by French officials.
The port on England’s south coast, a main gateway to mainland Europe, suggested travelers reconsider their journeys after ferry operators told them to wait at least six hours.

“Although the Port of Dover is gearing up for the busy summer period, we are frustrated that staffing at the French border overnight and early in the morning has been inadequate”, according to port authorities.
Passengers must pass through French border controls before boarding the ferry.
French staff “have fallen far short of what is required to ensure a smooth first weekend of the peak summer holiday period,” the statement added.
Most English schools close for the summer holidays this week, making it one of the busiest times for such travel.
