A homeless couple recently experienced the “transformation of their lives” when given a surprise wedding and professional makeup for the ceremony photo series.
Rosalyn Ferrer, 50, and her husband Rommel Basco, 55, from Pampanga province in the Philippines, have lived for years in a makeshift hut on a desert land with their children.
After living together for 24 years, they were unable to get married as they could not afford it as they had to focus on finding enough food to support the day.
But Richard Strandz, who owns a hair salon in the area where the couple lived, recognized them as they collected plastic scrap to sell for food. Together with his friends he organized the complete package of their marriage, which the poor couple had wanted for years.
Richard is already assisting the couple in closing the marriage papers while the funds for their church ceremony are ready.
For their photo shoot on February 13, Rosalyn was given a white dress while Rommel wore a Tagalog Barong suit.
Rosalyn said: “I have always dreamed of having a white wedding, since I was little, but I had forgotten about it for years. We have never had so much money as we had to provide daily food. Now that it happened I really feel blessed. “I am very grateful.”
Hairdresser Richard said: “I learned that they had lived together for decades but could not afford to get married. “I was touched by their love story and contacted my friends who have a wedding equipment business, to surprise them.”
He added: “True love is something to be celebrated, because it is special, it does not matter if you are rich or poor.”
