Oxygen cylinders used to treat patients sick with Covid-19 and other serious diseases, but also war wounded are running out in Ukraine.
The news was confirmed by the World Health Organization (WHO), which indicated that the trucks were unable to transport supplies from factories to hospitals within the country, including the capital Kiev. This means, according to the WHO, that reserves can run out within 24 hours.
The organization said it is working with international partners to receive urgent shipments through Poland.
“The situation of oxygen supply in the country is at a very critical point,” said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge.
The WHO clarified that some manufacturing plants in Ukraine are facing a shortage of zeolite, an essential product, mainly imported and needed to produce safe medical oxygen.
Also, service in hospitals is extremely difficult to provide for the sick, but also for the war wounded due to lack of electricity.
