To save electricity, the government is considering billing more for some Albanian households. Those who consume more than 700 kilowatt hours of energy will get a new price on the lights bill.
Top Channel has received some data from the ERE, according to which there are 55-65 thousand households that can receive the energy bill with increased prices.
A bill of lights up to 700 kilowatts with the current price of 9.5 lekë per kilowatt hour, together with VAT costs 8000 thousand new lekë. Meanwhile, if the new changes are approved, a family that will consume 100 kilowatt hours on the bandage will pay 2700 ALL more for energy, together with VAT 540 ALL, the total addition to the electricity bill will be 3240 ALL. In total, his bill is 11,240 ALL.
From 2015 the government has kept the tariff for energy consumption for households and small businesses, eliminating the former bands where over 300 kilowatt hours were paid another price, but the energy crisis has pushed the executive to rethink the electricity payment scheme.
The new tariffs still seem far away in the conditions when after the study that is being carried out by the Ministry of Infrastructure, the application must be made to the Regulatory Entity. Legally it is this institution that will have to approve the new bands, and increase the price of energy for this part of consumers.
OSHEE, the largest public company in the energy sector for three years, is losing money and is not able to cover the costs due to a very high level of losses in the network of 21%, energy that is not billed and that at today’s prices of the market costs ALL 28 billion (EUR 230 million). For years OSHEE has failed to meet the targets set by the World Bank and the Energy Secretariat to reduce losses.
