ENT doctor, Anjeza Kuçi spoke in “Wake Up” about the problems caused by the coronavirus in hearing, including people who have never had ear problems.
She said that there have been cases of patients who have suffered immediate hearing loss while stressing that the mask does not affect this.
“We are in the third wave of a pandemic, which has changed our quality of life, but at the same time has caused us many problems. Considering the problems that this pandemic has caused, hearing problems belong to the group of smaller problems, compared to the others.
We have also had minor endemics from the coronavirus, such as MERS or SARS, but we have not encountered cases with immediate hearing loss. Cases have been seen, but sporadic cases of hearing problems. We have a case in Iran for example, in Egypt, where we encountered patients who had sudden hearing loss.
But, according to studies it has been noticed that it is not only SarsCov2, but also the therapy followed, ie the medications that are given for this disease. Using a mask does not affect hearing loss. But, the use of a mask affects the faster detection of cases related to hearing loss. “Our hearing does not decrease, but we highlight the fact that we do not hear well”, explained the doctor.
