Mayor Erion Veliaj has stated that there is no agreement that connects Albania with Northern Macedonia on the road to membership in the European Union.
In an interview with Sokol Balla for “Top Story” from New York, when asked about the skeptical stance of the opposition, Veliaj declined to comment.
According to the mayor, Rama’s position is right, as there is no formal agreement that connects Albania with Northern Macedonia and the two countries have never been a “couple”.
Regarding the negotiation situation, do you think it is the right way because the opposition has been very skeptical?
Veliaj: I have not commented with the opposition for a long time, because I do not want to comment on unwashed clothes at someone else’s house. The Prime Minister has been very fair. There is no formal agreement today that connects Albania with Macedonia. You can not be separated from someone you have not joined. The question is when were we couple we should separate? Rama has shown that he is not servile and dependent on anyone. He does not suffer from fear of foreigners because he has lived in the west. At what stage with a lot of respect for both parties we have to say go ahead with your problems and we will catch our train.
