An Albanian identified as Edmond Gjata has been sentenced to 16 months in prison after he was caught hiding in the attic of a cannabis farm in Britain.
His arrest was made on May 3 last year in a house in Bradfort, where he had hidden about 18 kg of drugs, which if released on the market amounted to 150 thousand pounds.
The Bradford court said the 30-year-old Albanian had pa 1,000 in his hand, a passport and a telephone at the time of his arrest. Prosecutor Graham O’Sullivan said there were 101 cannabis plants planted in five rooms.
All were seized by police, who destroyed cannabis plants and drug paraphernalia by court order.
Long told police he was working in a car wash when he was sent home to take care of the plants. His lawyer, Abdul Shakoor, said Gjata arrived in the UK illegally and got the job promise.
He claimed to have difficulty breathing. Long hoped to stay in Britain after serving his sentence, but Judge Andrew Hatton said that after his release, he would be detained as an illegal immigrant.
