The “red and black” national team starts today the mission of the Nations League with the transfer match against Iceland, which will be played in Reykjavik at 20:45 and which will be broadcast on “Super Sport 2”.
While we are separated by a few hours from this confrontation, which to some extent is seen as the most difficult for Albania, let us go back once to see the balance of confrontations between these two teams.
Iceland and Albania have met a total of 7 times with each other, 2 times in the World Cup qualifiers, 4 times in the European qualifiers. In these matches, three were won by the “red and blacks”, while in the other four encounters, the Icelanders were the ones who triumphed.
Iceland-Albania met for the first time in the qualifiers of the European 1990-1991, with a match played in the transfer that ended with the result 0-2 and a match played in our country that ended again with the victory of the “red and blacks” 1 -0.
Then these two representatives would meet again in the friendly of 2004 that was played in Albania and ended with the result 2-1.
The next matches between Iceland and Albania would be in the qualifiers of the World Cup in 2012-2013, with both matches like the one that was played in our country and the one in the transfer that ended with the result 2-1 for the Icelanders.
While the last confrontations for these two teams date in the European qualifiers in 2019-2020, with the first meeting that ended with the result 1-0 for Iceland, while the second match was won by Albania 4-2.
According to statistics, Iceland has a victory more than the “red and blacks” and in a situation when their representative is not in the best possible moment, Albania is seen as the most favored to come out with a victory tonight, however in football it never dihet./supersport
