60 days, 60 concerts to celebrate an important milestone in the history of the Higher Institute of Arts in Albania, today the University of Arts: the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Faculty of Music. This concert season started on April 4th to continue until June 8th.
A special evening was reserved for the public with the concert of two professors of this Faculty, flutist Elvis Rudi and pianist Marin Gjollma. With a program that included some of the most prominent works of the repertoire of these two instruments, of the romantic period and later, they brought Franz Schubert, variations for flute and piano in Mi Minor on the song “Trockne Blumen- (trokle blumen) Flowers of Thata ”, Paul Hindemith, Sonata for Flute and Piano and Carl Reinecke (Raineke), Sonata“ Undine ”for Flute and Piano.
“It’s the curse of virtuosity that can bring nothing but virtuosity. A civilization that seeks virtuosity for the sake of virtuosity and ignores all the highest aspects of musical activity, is sooner or later doomed to produce a nationwide musical madness …… ”said Hindemith, a saying that seems to fit quite well with today’s reality.
The beginnings of the Faculty of Music date back to January 15, 1962, with the opening of the State Conservatory of Tirana. Four years later, on May 4, 1966, with the merger of three independent art schools, the “Aleksandër Moisiu” Drama School, the School of Visual Arts and the Conservatory, the Higher Institute of Arts was established.
