In her first public speech since stepping down in December, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Russia was waging a “barbaric war of aggression” on Ukraine.
Speaking in front of 200 people at the farewell ceremony for the outgoing leader of a well-known union, Merkel said the invasion was a clear violation of international law and a profound break in Europe’s history after the end of World War II.
