The high temperature of up to 40 has forced the parents to send their children to the pediatric emergency at the “Mother Teresa” University Hospital.
During this week, the number of children who needed the help of a doctor has increased, with an average of 250 emergencies per day. At the weekend, this number rises to 300.
Doctors say that the most frequent reason for children to appear are viruses and upper respiratory tract infections. There have also been cases of abdominal pain and vomiting, but so far it is not predominant. While the ages most affected by viruses are those from 0-3 years.
“I brought the child, I had a stomachache and vomiting, the doctors said it was a virus”, says a parent.
During the morning hours, there are fewer emergency cases. But among them there are also parents who express dissatisfaction with the service provided to children in pediatrics.
“The first time they don’t allow you to bring the stroller inside, I have to hold the children in my arms all the time. The doctor visits him and says go make steam, no one guides you where you should go. Everyone is always on the phone, they don’t answer. Even when I took him for the steam, they didn’t have the mask, but only a pipe, how can you make a child steam with a pipe”, says the parent.
Children who test positive for covid have also been added to the pediatric emergency, while there are also cases admitted to the pediatric infectious disease service. The little ones are swabbed, and depending on the positive or negative answer, they are divided into pavilions. For mild cases, the follow-up is done at home, while when it comes to babies of 1 or 2 months, the doctors keep them in the hospital for a day or two for observation.
With the spread of viruses and covid among children, it is no longer allowed to enter the pediatric emergency room without wearing a mask.
