Nearly 150 farmers in Gjirokastra, Saranda, Delvina, Dropulli are organizing a protest to demand the increase of sheep and goat milk, a product that according to farmers is staying at the same price levels as 5-6 years ago.
They talk about big losses due to the increase in the prices of products in function of livestock, corn, grass, oil, medicines, etc.
“A liter of water costs 600 lek and a liter of organic milk costs 1000 lek, it is not worth it at all.”
“Corn for cattle from 270 is now 500 lekë while a head of alfalfa from 5000 now makes 10000 lekë how can the price of milk stay in place”
“Many young people like me have run away and left because it is not worth it at all”
“We have halved them but we will sell them or slaughter the herds because we are without support at all”
“Most of us are in debt to dairies without money for 6 months”
They are petitioning the Ministry of Agriculture to ask for the regulation of the milk market while they have warned that they will not take milk to the factory if no measures are taken.
“We demand an increase in the price of milk! We request a subsidy of 10 ALL per liter of milk, we request an increase of the subsidy per head from 12 thousand ALL at the level of the countries of the region, Northern Macedonia and Kosovo.
Farmers in the two main livestock counties instead of Gjirokastra and Vlora calculate a loss of at least 30% due to rising prices throughout the economic chain.
