His name is Eljon Toçi and he has big dreams, as well as positive thoughts about the future of Albanian football. He turned 19 only in January, while in Italy he violated when he was one year old.
The striker, part of the age of Fiorentina, has stood out with his qualities and after playing with Albania U-19 he was convinced to move to Albania U-21.
This is something normal for him, as he says in the column “Albanian Talent” for Fshf.org. Although Armando Broja is a little bigger than him, Toçi openly says that the Southampton striker is his example. The young man speaks openly, recounting how he started with the football he played, who advises him, his dreams and who the striker would like to follow in his career steps.
-Eljon, how did the connection with football start for you? Who is the man who pushed you towards this sport?
– My connection with football started when I was 6 years old. The man who brought me closer to this sport was my father, but also the company of the same age has attracted me from football. We always played together and that’s where my passion for football came from.
-What pushes you to grow even more in this profession?
– Football is the dream of my life and it is an impetus for me. For 6 years I dreamed of debuting in Serie A. This is my ambition and that of the whole family. This motivates me to continue and grow in this profession.
-Who is the person who advises you the most about football and who is closest to you?
– The person who advises me the most is normally the coach of the team. However, before the matches, I always talk to my family in the evening and they give me more motivation mentally than tactically. Family members are the ones who stay closest to me, absolutely.
-How did you feel when you first received the invitation from Albania U19? What do you remember from the first gathering and match?
– When I received the invitation from the U-19 National Team for the first time, I and my family felt very proud. I remember that in the first gathering I knew a lot of players, as they played in Italy. There were a lot of quality and level players. There I came to understand that Albanian football is improving every year. I remember the first match, against Italy. Italy is a strong team, but we kept the result by playing well. Everyone complimented me.
-What can you single out so far from your football life? Is there an achievement you are proud of?
– My football life has been simple, I have passed all ages. What set me apart from others is that I played with people bigger than myself. The teammates were a year or two older. This is the thing that has set me apart the most. My personal achievement that I am proud of is the fact that I was invited by Fiorentina, a Serie A club.
– How did it feel to gather with the first team of Fiorentina?
– The first gathering was an indescribable emotion. We played in Rome at the “Olimpico” and for me it was incredible that the dream of a lifetime came true. I watched all the players, which until three years ago I watched on TV, five meters away from me. It was incredibly strong emotion.
-Who is the Albanian player that motivates you the most, that you have as an example? What about the foreign player?
– The player that motivates me the most is Broja, absolutely. This is because he is a player who has achieved important things for his age. I take it as an example, because it is not easy outside Albania to reach those levels for an Albanian player. And the foreign player that I have as an example, let’s say, is Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He is the player of the team I have in my heart, Milan, and he is the strongest striker.
– In Italy there are now a large number of Albanians who are playing in Serie A. How do you feel about this and how much confidence does it give you that very soon and you will join them?
– I am very proud to see Albanian players playing in Serie A. This gives me motivation and courage to join them in the future.
-Seeing that you play abroad and many other young elements play in important European championships, do you think that Albania has a bright future?
– In my opinion, Albania has a very bright future, because every year the level of Albanian teams, national teams, increases, the level of players they have increases. For me, the Albanian national team will go a long way, like Albanian football.
-You personally, what is your biggest goal in football? Is there a footballer in whose footsteps you would like to walk?
– The biggest goal for me is to reach Serie A, as it is my dream. I would like to “imitate” Ibrahimovic, to reach the top of Italian football and abroad. I want to be an idol for all Albanian players who play around the world./Supersport
