Iran has launched multiple missile tests this week as part of a five-day military maneuver.
Western media reported that concessions were made near the country’s only nuclear plant as negotiations with the US on the revival of the international nuclear deal are ongoing.
“In order to increase the defense capabilities of the armed forces, training exercises were held near the Bushehr nuclear plant,” Mohammad-Taghi Irani, deputy chief of staff, told the Fars state news agency. governor of Bushehr province.
Military maneuvers also come as the US has said it is preparing its “alternatives” in the event of a failed negotiation. Washington withdrew from the deal in 2018 and imposed heavy economic sanctions on Iran.
Talks on Iran’s nuclear program are taking place in the Austrian capital Vienna.
International efforts are being made to revive the 2015 six-party agreement under which Iran should reduce nuclear activity in exchange for lifting US economic and banking sanctions.
Iran has always said that its nuclear program has only civilian purposes.
Military maneuvers dubbed “Payambar-e-Azadm” (The Great Prophet) began Monday in the provinces of Bushehr, Hormozgan and Khuzestan, all near the shores of the Persian Gulf.
They include naval drill drills and precision missile launches.
While at the negotiating table, US representative Rob Malley told CNN yesterday that there are only “a few weeks” left to revive the agreement, if Iran continues nuclear activity “at the current pace.”
