Additional information has been provided by Beijing on the weapons that China has sent to Serbia. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian confirmed that his country “has launched regular military supplies, and that the shipment is aimed at developing bilateral co-operation between Beijing and Belgrade.”
Lijan tried to stress, however, that the project, which comes at a time of high tensions in Europe over the Russian attack on Ukraine, is not aimed at any third party.
“It is a project within our annual cooperation plan. We hope that the relevant media do not interpret it too much. “This project does not target any third party and has nothing to do with the current situation,” he said.
The Associated Press news agency says that during this transport operation, which was classified as secret, the planes continued to land in Belgrade over the weekend, sent there as part of China’s FK-3 anti-aircraft system.
Serbia has agreed with China to hand over these weapons since 2019.
