Israel announced today that it would offer a fourth dose of the coronavirus vaccine to people over 60 and health professionals, for fear of spreading the Omicron variant.
“The people of Israel were the first in the world to receive the third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine and we continue to lead the fourth dose,” said Prime Minister Naftali Bennett in a statement.
He called on those who meet the criteria to be vaccinated. Israel announced on Tuesday that it had recorded its first death caused by omicron, a variant of the coronavirus. An elderly man died Monday in Beer-Sheba.
The patient was suffering from other diseases, had been vaccinated twice but did not receive the third, the so-called booster dose.
