Italy continues to be Albania’s main trading partner and trade relations between them are becoming stronger.
Last year, exports of goods to this country increased significantly to 155.7 billion or about 1.2 billion euros in 2021, expanding by almost 270 million euros. The largest export group to Italy remains textiles and footwear, followed by exports of construction materials and machinery.
In second place is Kosovo with 37.6 billion ALL “Made in Albania” goods exported in 2021, followed by Spain which is occupying a significant share in trade between countries. Last year, ALL 23.5 billion worth of goods, mainly minerals and fuels, were exported to it.
Trade relations are being further strengthened with Greece receiving from Albania minerals, textiles and shoes, as well as construction materials. Exports to it amounted to almost 175 million euros in goods.
But why is Albania not able to expand the map of trading partners?
“There is a significant shortage for European countries as perhaps our production capacity and our technology can not respond to this Nordic consumer or other more developed European countries. They require a very qualified quality and in this part we continue to have problems “, explains Synchron Vjoldi Danaj, economics expert.
According to expert Vjoldi Danaj, in order to become competitive, exports need to be diversified:
“If we are to increase exports to other developed countries we must favor the arrival of foreign investors from these countries in order for them to produce here and export to their own countries. We need to make that leap from fason to light industry”.
