Millions of locusts have begun invading the Italian island of Sardegna, destroying crops and lawns.
Following calls from the community, local MP Lucia Scanu, of the ‘Coraggio Italia’ party, has called on parliament to intervene in what she called a “biological catastrophe” with urgent assistance to affected companies.
Local farmers are in big trouble, the mayor of Ottana said, “The locusts’ anxiety and fear has made people stay home from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.”

The local MP said: “Each shrimp can consume an amount of vegetable biomass equal to its body weight per day, therefore many insects can consume 200-300 tons of vegetation per day based on their calculated number.
Some municipalities have declared a state of natural disaster, for the unfortunate phenomenon that is repeated for the third season, with increasing proportions.
