Italian authorities today seized the yacht worth more than 500 million euros of Russian oligarch Andrei Melnichenko, EU-sanctioned for the war in Ukraine.
His yacht “SY A” anchored in the northeastern Italian port of Trieste, is believed to be the largest private vessel in the world.
Italian financial police said the vessel had been discovered to have “links to Andrei Melnichenko through a Bermuda-based company”.
The billionaire coal and fertilizer tycoon was mentioned earlier in the week on the EU’s blacklist for freezing assets and banning travel to the territory.
Since last week, Italy has seized assets of Russian tycoons worth about 140 million euros, including the 65-million-euro yacht of metal tycoon Alexei Mordashov.
