Rescue teams in the city of Kharkiv have stated that at least 20 people were injured during the bombing of the state administration office there.
In a video posted on Facebook, an emergency worker outside the severely damaged building says it has been partially destroyed and adds that a staircase of a nearby building has collapsed, blocking people below it.
He states that about 20 civilians were injured.
“Rescue teams are continuing the search under the rubble, to remove the injured or victims”.
The artillery barrage that Russia launched towards Kharkiv is a terrible escalation of the tactics that Moscow has undertaken in the five-day attack on Ukraine.
According to local authorities, heavy bombardment of residential areas had killed and injured civilians. Widely circulated images on social media showed the hail around the apartment blocks.
The explosions were numerous and plumes of smoke rose from the buildings.
“It is a war, a real war,” said Ihor Terekhov, the mayor of Kharkiv.
The attack came after Ukrainian troops repulsed a Russian incursion into the city the day before and followed intense exchanges on the outskirts of the city.
