The President of the Republic, Ilir Meta, invited tonight to Top Story with Sokol Balla, spoke about his journey as president of the country.
He indicated that in his beginnings the biggest concern was to realize the re-entry of the opposition into the elections.
Meta said that during these five years he only felt like the president betrayed and undermined by friends and enemies for any reason.
He said that for him this journey has been quite difficult as it is not normal for the president to be left alone in a one-party parliament and in this situation he has had to seek the help of the people.
Journalist Sokol Balla: From the election as head of state in April 2017, how do you remember those days?
“My concern was not how I was elected but the goal was how I would do my best on how the opposition could enter the elections and leave the tent because it was an attempt by the prime minister and some internationals to leave the DP in the tent.
The game was clear and I helped as if I was looking forward to coming out of a dream. I have it very calmly, this period of the presidency has three phases to be objective. It is the first phase where Rama said that this is the best president was a normal presidency while the opposition burned the mandates. I believe everyone is clear about the film, in the end the conclusion is clear, Ilir meta during these five years and especially from February 17 until now when the opposition is paralyzed, I was alone as a betrayed, undermined president from friends and foes for any reason. How can it be normal when a president is left alone in a one-party parliament.
They made it harder for me but I raised the antennas higher, I was forced to seek the help of the people as well.
“Since December, when the KED conflicts arose, when I realized that they wanted to kidnap members of the Constitutional Court belonging to the president, I have made every effort to avoid March 2.”
We recall that Ilir Meta was elected President in 2017, the seventh of the Republic of Albania, with 87 votes in favor and two against.
The Socialist Party has conducted proceedings twice within two years for the dismissal of President Meta, for a serious violation of the Constitution.
The first warning about Meta’s dismissal came from Prime Minister Edi Rama, two days before the April 25 elections.
Ilir Meta warned that he would resign if the SP won 71 seats, but did not do so even though the Socialists managed to secure 74 seats in the April 25 elections.
Our country is preparing for the presidential elections in July, while the majority and the opposition are in negotiations for the names that will run for the new head of state.
