January this year marked a high number of road accidents in the country, but compared to the same period a year ago, the figure is lower. In the first 31 days of the year there were more than 100 accidents, where 16 people lost their lives. These events have injured hundreds of other people, while experts seek cooperation between institutions to prevent these events. On the other hand, the measures declared by the police did not work.
Referring to the figures published by INSTAT, it is learned that in January 2022 there are 107 road accidents out of 125 accidents that occurred in January 2021, decreasing by 14.4%, compared to the same period a year ago.
In the first 31 days of the year, the number of injured (killed and injured) is 147 people from 165 in the same month a year ago, while the number of victims is 16 out of 22 in the same period of a year ago.
INSTAT, says that in January 2022, road accidents, in 81.3% of cases, occurred as a result of the behavior of the driver.
Also, the highest number of accidents in this period occurred mainly from the age group 25-34 years, accounting for 29.0% of the total number of accidents. Accidents in this age group have decreased by 11.4%, compared to the same period a year ago.
The Traffic Police has continuously increased the number of officers on the ground, but this measure has apparently not had an effect on the prevention of accidents in our country. Also, in addition to weather conditions, the increase in the number of accidents is caused by non-compliance with speed limits or even road interventions.
