He played for Bayern for a decade and at the age of 32 decided to move to Qatar, joining Qatar Sports Club.
In a long interview for the Spanish media, Javi Martinez gave some very interesting answers, especially about life and culture in the Asian country.
The decision to go to Qatar: “I needed a change and a new experience. I had my demands for sports, economic and personal life. I was already 32 years old and had a broken knee and thought it was the right time to leave Bayern. “Qatar had everything I wanted.”
Life in Qatar: “The World Cup will make you see what life is like there. They are very different cultures, but it is not as “heavy” as I thought. In some areas of the city my partner can not wear a bikini, but in others she can. It ‘s shocking. “They will do something to be able to serve alcohol during the World Cup.”
Guardiola or Ancelotti? “Pep is very perfectionist. You get tired of seeing your rival, he tells you everything and then it happens in the game. It may happen that there will be information overload for any player. I learned more from him. Ancelotti gave me confidence and day by day… We players bring out the best when we feel comfortable. Carlo and Pep are the two exponents of football: Carlo is the most classic football, the football we grew up with and Pep is the new football. I would have a lot of doubts to decide with whom to stay. I was in better shape with Carlon. “He gave me more confidence and that is important for a footballer.”
Lewandowski to Barcelona: “If they (Bayern) do not want to sell you, you can not leave because you have no clause. “But I think there is a possibility that he will go to Barcelona, because he thinks that playing in Spain, he will have the opportunity to win the Golden Ball.” / Supersport
