Jenny and Dea enjoy that this holiday season is not a holiday.
Dea and Jenny are the two youngest employees of one of the cafes in the capital.
For girls with Down syndrome this is the first job in 26 years of life and the staff has welcomed them kindly.
Jenny: I was overjoyed. To be honest, I do the job very well. And I feel independent. As soon as I come I start work directly by cleaning the tables. I’m agile…
Dea: I clean the tables, the books. I do not get tired at all. I like it a lot. Customers are good.
The employment contract for them will last 12 months, which has started since October as one of the Jonathan Center initiatives aimed at employing young people with Down Syndrome in local businesses supported by the US Embassy.
The girls help in the cafe 2 hours every day and after closing the work, they can not wait to return the next day among many people.
But their work is not voluntary, they are rewarded at the end of the month. Dea with salary has big dreams.
Dea: I want to buy a house, car…
While Jenny will be more thankful to the people who have helped her.
Jenny: I will rent them a juice or something to eat.
