Queen Elizabeth II appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace this Sunday to greet large crowds that had gathered to conclude the four-day celebrations of her Platinum Jubilee.
Surrounded by her heirs, Princes Charles, William and George, it was the 96-year-old monarch’s first appearance since Thursday, as she had avoided several events due to health problems with mobility.
Using a walking stick for support and wearing a green jacket and hat combined with white gloves, the queen stood on the balcony to sing the national anthem, “God Save The Queen,” saluting the cheers of the crowd.
The country’s longest-serving monarch made two public appearances on the balcony, at the beginning of the festivities and at their closing, but this has put her somewhat embarrassed according to royal palace spokespersons amid her difficulties walking and standing.
After the ceremonial celebration ended, thousands of people flocked to Windsor Castle for a picnic, while English citizens expressed enthusiasm for celebrating with their relatives after two years of pandemic, which banned any gathering.
