Shaip Kamberi, political representative of the Albanians of the Presheva Valley, has announced that he has been elected as a member of the Assembly of Serbia, after the elections that were repeated on Thursday in the village of Ternovc.
Kamberi made the announcement through a post on Facebook, although there is no confirmation from the Republican Election Commission of Serbia.
Parliamentary elections in Serbia have been held since April 3, but the results have not been certified yet.
This is due to the repetition of voting in the village of Tërnovc, as a result of some irregularities.
Thursday’s vote was the fifth attempt.
The votes of Ternovci have been decisive for the representation of the Albanian minority – with one deputy – in the Assembly of Serbia.
In the elections of April 3, Albanians of the Valley competed with two lists – “Coalition of Albanians of the Valley”, led by Shaip Kamberi, and “Alternative for Change – Albanian Democratic Alternative”, led by Shqiprim Arifi.
In the penultimate parliamentary elections in Serbia, in June 2020, the Albanian parties were in a coalition and won three parliamentary mandates.
Kamberi has been a deputy in the Assembly of Serbia for two other terms./REL
