The panel of judges faced a gruesome recording of the ex-soldier who killed his neighbors on November 21 last year in England.
Former commander Collin Reeves, 35, stabbed Stephen and Jennifer Chapple at their home in Norton Fitzwarren, near Taunton, Somerset, while their two children slept on the second floor around 9 p.m., according to Sky News.
Reeves jumped over a fence to enter the Dragon Rise property after a long quarrel over parking.
On Friday, an emergency call recording appeared in court as evidence of the crime. The operator confused Reeves with the victim, asking if he was injured.
Reeves said: I went with the knife, I hit both.
When asked if the couple was still alive, he replied: No, I think they were moving somehow. He was lying on the floor, she was lying on the sofa.
Testifying Friday, Reeves’s mother, Lynn, cried as she told lawyers how she found her son “white as a ghost” on the night of the attack.
“He was just standing, he just looked at us as if he was not there and I had to protect my family.” she said.
Ms. Chapple was unable to get up from the couch and defend herself during the attack.
She suffered six stab wounds to the upper chest and shoulder, causing her death. The 36-year-old also received six wounds on the body.
Footage captured on the back door camera shows Reeves entering the property before the 33-year-old lady was heard screaming in horror.
Reeves then shouted “vdis… vdis! ”.
Reeves, a former commando engineer in the British Army, has admitted to killing the couple and pleaded guilty. He claims to have suffered from an “abnormality of mental functioning”.
