The North Korean leader seems to have made no difference to Tom Cruise as he visited a military facility wearing glasses and a leather jacket, Western media reported ironically.
Kim Jong-un ‘s brilliant’ aviator ‘jacket and’ aviator ‘style sunglasses similar to the popular’ Top Gun ‘action movie were the style of his choice to inspect the Sohae satellite launch plant in the northeast of the country, near the border with China.
Some critics compared Kim to the character Maverick played by Tom Cruise, others to Danny Zuko from the musical ‘Grease’, or even Dave Lister from the film Red Dwarf.
The development comes as at the end of last year the media reported that police in North Korea had been banned from wearing leather jackets, as this was the dictator’s favorite choice.
His visit to the Sohae plant also comes amid rising tensions with the West over Kim’s plans to “expand and modernize” the facility to launch satellites into space.
The United States and South Korea say the plant actually serves to test ballistic missiles.
Other rocket launches disguised as satellite launches were reportedly carried out by Pyongyang on February 27th and March 5th.
Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said in a statement: “The purpose of these tests, which do not indicate the range of flight, is likely to be to evaluate new missile systems disguised as space missions.”
