The German government confirmed its support for Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe, as stated by the member of the General Assembly of this council, Knut Abraham.
The German MP published on Twitter a question he asked the government of his country if he would support Kosovo, if he applied and the answer was that “The German executive supports such a thing. “It is important that we remain in close coordination with our EU and Council of Europe partners on this issue.”is emphasized in the government’s response.
President Vjosa Osmani also spoke about a possible application of Kosovo for membership in this institution.
Osmani expressed optimism, but also realism at the same time. She explained that from application to membership, a certain period of time is needed.
“. We are in the final stage of preparing for the application, but keep in mind that for membership in the Council of Europe, different countries, it took a different time for accession. Someone needed 1 year, someone else 5 years to join. We are working with our partners to make this time as short as possible. As you know, more than 2/3 of the member states of the Council of Europe have recognized the Independence of Kosovo and we hope that these will vote in our favor. “said Osmani.
Last month, Kosovo’s leaders declared that it was the right time to apply to the international mechanisms of the European Union, the Council of Europe and NATO. In the case of NATO, the issue is more complicated, while in the case of the EC, according to Osmani 2/3 of the ministers who will vote are from countries that have recognized the independence of Kosovo.
