With the expression of the Greek philosopher Aristotle that “education is an ornament in good times, and a refuge in difficult times”, Minister Evis Kushi wished the International Education Day.
This marked day finds the 9-year schools and gymnasiums empty, due to the low temperatures that have gripped the country. Kushi, in her message, writes that such a decision was necessary for the safety of the children.
According to Kushi, the goal of the Ministry of Education is to provide the best conditions in schools, but also “modern teaching methods, adapted to the needs of today’s time and market.”
In the plan for Albania in 2030, the Minister of Education mentions the possibility for secondary education to become compulsory. “This would be the best investment for their future and the development of our beloved Albania“, Says the minister.
Meanwhile, while schools are on vacation, a group of students are protesting this Monday in front of the Ministry of Education. Civic Resistance activists announced the protest as a form of reaction to the lack of heating in schools. Some citizens have brought their heaters in front of the Ministry of Education, mocking the education system.
Heating in schools is one of the problems that students and teachers are facing in these cold January days, while the harsh weather with low temperatures below zero degrees has gripped the country. Frosts, snowfall and ice on the roads have made traffic difficult in some areas of the country.
The full message of Minister Evis Kushi:
As Aristotle says, Education is adornment in good times, and refuge in difficult times.
Although I would like my congratulations today for the International Education Day to find students and teachers in schools, the atmospheric conditions forced us to interrupt the teaching process for a few days, for the sake of their health and safety.
Because we care not only about their safety within the school walls, but also about the dangers that come from frost, snow or cold on the way to school.
The United Nations confirmed again a few days ago that the Covid 19 pandemic, from the moment it first appeared, has plunged education into chaos worldwide, affecting an estimated 1.6 billion pupils and students. While technology and many other areas of life are constantly undergoing radical transformations.
And to better adapt to the times, modern education is undoubtedly a necessity. That’s why the UN this year has chosen “Changing Course, Transforming Education” as the theme for education.
Our goal is to provide our students and teachers not only with the best possible conditions, but also with the most modern teaching methods, adapted to the needs of today’s time and market.
This transformation of education coincides with our very challenging vision for Albania of 2030, for a quality education in schools and universities, in accordance with the new needs of the 21st century.
Let us be more ambitious and work together so that in Albania of 2030, why not, Albanian students have compulsory education in high school, until the age of 18. This would be the best investment for their future and the development of our beloved Albania.
