The Association of Serb-Majority Municipalities in Kosovo does not mean a “Republica Srpska” in Kosovo, according to the European Union’s envoy for dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak.
During the press conference that concluded his visit to Kosovo, he said that Kosovo is an independent state and no agreement is imposed on it that is not agreed. “Kosovo is an equal party in the dialogue, Kosovo has 50% of the right to speak, which means that nothing can be imposed on it without an agreement. “I often hear it said that we do not want a second Serbian republic, I believe we have made it very clear that no one wants a second Serbian republic in Kosovo,” said the European emissary.
Meanwhile, the US Ambassador to the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, regarding the association said that there are models that can be discussed. “What I said when I stated that there are different models for the creation of the association is that there are models that do not harm the sovereignty or functionality of Kosovo,” said Escobar.
Lajcak also said that the April 3rd presidential elections in Serbia will have an impact on the dialogue process. “We had initial discussions, but it is not part of the dialogue. So, there is no agreement that arranges the holding of elections, but there is no doubt that any decision to be taken with the elections of April 3 will have an impact on the dialogue process “, said Lajcak. He further added that the decision to allow Serbian elections to be held in Kosovo belongs to Kosovo institutions.
