The European Union Special Representative for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, said that in his office he keeps a map in which Kosovo and Serbia are separated.
His statement was in fact a response to the concern of many Kosovo citizens and political representatives regarding an interview in the background which was alleged to be a map of the Balkans where Kosovo was said to be part of Serbia.
Lajçak said that many misunderstandings have been instigated about this issue and for this reason, he has chosen to publish some photos of the map he keeps in his office. “It is an official map of the EU, of the Western Balkans. Kosovo is there and it is also the line that separates Kosovo from Serbia.
Today is an example of why dialogue on the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia is so important. “Similar issues will no longer cause misunderstandings,” he wrote on Twitter. Lajçak was also criticized by the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo, Meliza Haradinaj-Stublla, who called his attention to update the map of the Western Balkans, otherwise, according to her, his work will fail.
