The UN Human Rights Council has adopted a resolution to investigate crimes allegedly committed by Russian troops in parts of Ukraine that were once under their control, with the aim of holding them accountable for serious acts.
More than 50 countries backed Kiev’s request for a special session of the council to consider “the deteriorating human rights situation in Ukraine stemming from Russian aggression.”
The resolution was adopted by a strong majority, with 33 members voting in favor and two China and Eritrea against and 12 abstentions.
Russia was suspended by this council on April 7, and only a few days ago the Czech Republic took its place.
