The increase of apartments in Tirana as well as the establishment of hotel structures in the country, increased the demand for timber.
Although furnishing an apartment for Albanians today costs 33% more expensive than in 2020, again the demands are great.
“From my 12-year experience as an architect, we conclude that an apartment of 100 square meters, without including windows, tiles, electrical-hydraulic system and accessories, but only the furniture previously cost 12 thousand euros. “Today, after the pandemic, the same apartment costs 16 thousand euros.”says architect Enea Stavre.
The Covid 19 pandemic isolated not only humans but also the economy. During this period, the construction and timber industries ceased their activities. But after a 2-year period, we went back to the previous life, but with a change this time, the demand for furniture is higher than the market offers.
“The post-pandemic brought about an increase in construction market demand across Europe. Given that large companies that are importers of raw materials have contracts with developed European countries they see it as more profitable to have contracts with these countries than to have long-term contracts with countries like Albania, where we are considered as a small market“, Says the economics expert, Romina Radonshiqi.
Albania is an import dependent country in terms of raw material for furniture. However, in addition to the fact that we have an increase in the price of raw materials, we also have an increase in transport costs, these two factors affect the increase in prices in the furniture sector. Despite this, Albanians demand more furniture.
“We have many requests and this means that a project is never submitted on time“, Says the architect.
