Expedition groups have located the wreckage of the famous ship that sank in the Weddell Sea in 1915, British media wrote today.
Officials have announced that they have successfully completed “the world’s most challenging search for a shipwreck” such as that of British explorer Ernest Shackleton ‘Endurance’, lost more than a century ago in Antarctic waters.
The wreckage was found 3,008 meters below the surface of what Shackleton had called “the worst marine part of the world.” The wreckage was discovered Saturday, on the 100th anniversary of Shackleton’s funeral, said the Falklands Islands maritime center near Argentina.
The successful ‘Endurance22’ expedition was launched a month ago from Cape Town in South Africa, said Dr John Shears, the senior geographer who led it.

At the top of the sunken ship’s hull was seen its famous name, probably preserved from icy waters by wood-eating organisms.
Endurance was reportedly found off the coast of Antarctica, about four miles away from the position last recorded by its captain Frank Worsley.
She had not been seen since it was hit by ice and sank in the Weddell Sea in November 1915.
The director of the expedition, Mensun Bound, said that the images showed that the 45-meter-long ship looked with an intact body.
“We are pleased with the fate that we located and received the footage of Endurance. It is the most beautiful wooden boat I have ever seen. “The ruin stands straight and proud at the bottom of the sea, in a wonderful state of preservation,” he said.
The site of the Endurance drowning was declared a historic monument by a 1959 treaty.
The reconnaissance expedition consisted of 64 people and 46 crew members of the ship SA Agulhas II. The mission, which cost about $ 10 million, was funded by an anonymous donor. A similar attempt three years ago ended in failure.
Shackleton is known to have lost his ship but had managed to save the crew. He had set sail from Georgia to the USA in December 1914 with 27 men, to reach the South Pole and cross to the other side of the continent.
But in early January the ship got stuck in ice and the crew abandoned it, taking the ship’s food and other supplies, according to history.
Shackleton and his crew reportedly survived on ice for five months before arriving with their boats on Elephant Island.
From there Shackleton, Worsley and four others sailed to Georgia where they arranged the return to rescue the rest of the crew.
Shackleton’s aberration mission Endurance22 has also conducted significant scientific research, Shears said.
