A mild earthquake shook Hawaii yesterday, when the body of a man recovered from about 40 meters below the crater of Kilauea volcanic mountain, which has been erupting since September last year.
The elderly man from Hawaii died when he fell into the active volcano.
The 75-year-old, still unnamed publicly, was from Hilo on the main island of Hawaii. He was reported missing Monday morning, but officials later found his body in the Uekahuna panoramic view area of the volcano.
A spokesman for the authorities said the man had fallen from a “closed area” and that an investigation was under way.
Coincidentally, an earthquake was recorded yesterday in Kilauea, which the US authorities said was of magnitude 4.3.
The expert of the ‘Hawaiian Volcano Observatory’ center, Ken Hon, said that the earthquake had not caused consequences in the local volcanoes of Kīlauea and Mauna Loa.
“This earthquake was part of the ongoing seismic wave in Pāhala, which started in August 2019,” he said.
