The mayor of the city of Lviv in western Ukraine, Andriy Sadovyi, has called on NATO to close its airspace, as the war is already very close to the alliance’s borders.
“Lviv today is a big center of war refugees, more than 200,000 people come to Lviv… and it is my responsibility, my duty to give them the maximum. “It’s my job,” said Sadovyi.
Calling this morning’s attack on Ukraine ‘shocking’, he called for help for Ukrainian refugees and for equipping Ukraine with the necessary military equipment in the current situation.
“I had a meeting with Polish politicians and Polish mayors. I sent a very strong message, 20 km (12.5 miles) from the borders of the European Union. We need military equipment, we need bulletproof vest, we need [helmeta]. We need support and help together, help [për] refugees and assistance [për] “Ukrainian troops,” he said.
Given that Lviv is a city very close to Poland, he said NATO should be more careful as the war approaches much closer to its border.
“We need closed skies, we need military equipment. We need a decision today. We need bulletproof vest today, not tomorrow. “Tomorrow the Russian missile in the European Union ends,” Sadovyi said.
