Citing experts, Qatari network says lead is the same as that used by Israeli forces
The ‘Al Jazeera’ network has published the photo of the bullet which it says killed its Palestinian journalist, Shireen Abu Akleh, who was reporting on the Israeli army raid in an occupied area of the West Bank.
An investigation conducted by the media network, published on its website, stated that “the green-pointed bullet was designed to pierce the armor and is ammunition of the M4 automatic rifle”.
It further states that “the bullet was analyzed using 3D models and according to experts was of the caliber 5.56 mm – the same used by Israeli forces.”
Citing experts, Al Jazeera said the lead was “designed and manufactured in the US”.
In its investigation, Al Jazeera re-imagined the incident using 3D technology to learn more about the type of bullet, its caliber and the weapons that use this type of bullet.
Abu Akleh, a Palestinian journalist with US citizenship, was killed on May 11 in Jenin while reporting on an Israeli army raid on the West Bank.
Palestinian officials and her employer, Al Jazeera, said she had been killed by Israeli forces.
