Croatian President Zoran Milanovic said on Thursday that the Open Balkans initiative is futile if Kosovo is not included as an equal party.
He made these comments in Pristina, where he is on an official visit during which he held meetings with leaders of Kosovo institutions.
“If the initiative is well-intentioned, then it should include all countries in this region, Kosovo is a state and is recognized by most European Union countries. On the other hand, if it is the opposite, then the question is what are the motives behind this “, he said, emphasizing that if Kosovo is left aside, then it is clear what are the motives behind this initiative.
The Croatian president said that the Serbian government is more interested in staying in power and does not prioritize integration into the European Union.
“Serbia must decide for itself what it wants. “While these movements with the initiative of the Open Balkans, well, it is no longer the year 1914. Okay, let the people move freely, but without Kosovo, the goals are clear, so they are not so humane”, he said.
The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani said that the only alternative for Kosovo is the Berlin process, as a comprehensive initiative and where all countries are equal.
“The moment Serbia renounces destabilizing tendencies towards the region, the moment Serbia recognizes Kosovo as an irreversible reality, as a reality that is moving forward and will never go back, then one can take seriously the statement of (Alexander) “Vuçiç is interested in regional cooperation”, said President Osmani.
President Osmani said that the militarization of Serbia shows what its real goal is.
The Croatian president said he saw no danger to Kosovo from Serbia’s arming in recent years.
“Nothing is happening except that the neighboring country is arming itself with weapons with which it can wage a war for no longer than 15 minutes until NATO or someone else is involved and in this regard I do not see any danger for Kosovo. there is no “, said the Croatian president, who will meet during his visit to Kosovo about 130 soldiers of his country serving in the framework of the NATO peacekeeping mission in Kosovo./VOA
