The Minister of Justice, Ulsi Manja has been called in an interpellation by the MP Kastriot Piroli about the situation in the prisons in the country.
Manja spoke about the work done in this institution, mentioning the recently finalized operation with 28 detainees. On the other hand, he said that the increase of the salaries of the prison employees has started.
He said that prisons are populated at a capacity of 81%, ie not at full capacity. According to the minister, police officers located inside the penitentiary premises can not carry weapons in the belt, emphasizing that this is done for security reasons.
“In cooperation with the State Police and the Elbasan Prosecutor’s Office, we have finalized a successful operation to crack down on a criminal group that was engaged in criminal activities inside and outside the prison system. Several police officers have been arrested in prisons. What happened yesterday was a job started by us. It will not be action, it will not be a calendar of activities, but it will be a daily operation. Now that we are talking, after a long time, the directorate of prisons is in total reorganization. We want to restructure the career qualification in prison police. In 2018 the government has started a reform for the prison police. Today we are talking about all the bylaws and very soon the regulation of prisons will be approved. On January 1, 2021, the salary increase for each year of service has started, and from July 2022, the salary increase for the special labor sectors will start. As we speak today there is no case of delay in non-payment of hours after hours. I can not leave without mentioning the treatment done for the health staff, part of the prison staff.
