Former Miss USA, 30-year-old Cheslie Kryst fell to her death from a tall building in New York City yesterday morning, a few hours after posting a message on social media where she wrote: “This day brings you peace and tranquility.”
Kryst was a lawyer and also worked as a television program correspondent. She had won the US beauty pageant in 2019 and used the platform to promote social and criminal justice reform.
Kryst had her apartment on the ninth floor of a luxury building in downtown Manhattan, and is believed to have jumped from the 29th floor of the 60-story building yesterday morning. She was found dead on the snow-covered sidewalk.
She was thrown from an area of the building that was open to all residents and was last seen alive on the 29th floor terrace, sources said.
A few hours ago, Kryst wrote on her Instagram page: “May this day bring you calm and peace.”
Police found a letter in her apartment saying that she left everything to her mother, also a former winner of beauty contests.
There were no explanations for her actions on paper.
Previously Miss Carolina North, Kryst also won the Miss USA crown with an excellent winged frock coat, which paid homage to Maya Angelou with the song ‘I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings’.
Kryst was born in Jackson, Michigan, to a white Polish-American father and African-American mother, the latter April Simpkins, the former Miss North Carolina winner in 2002.
In a statement, Kryst’s family described her as “an inspiration to others with her beauty and strength”.
