As the only laboratory to produce an already approved vaccine against aphids, the Danish company Bavarian Nordic says its order list has begun to fill up as the typical rare disease has begun to spread around the world and especially in Europe.
Rolf Sass Sørensen, Vice President, Bavaria Nordic:
“We have an annual capacity in our country of production of approximately 30 million doses per year. So we can produce quite a few doses. With the current demand we can easily supply the global market. “This is a vaccine that can be used in both cases even if you are exposed, so if you are vaccinated a few days after exposure, you can also be protected.”
Since the first case of smallpox was reported in England on May 7 by a person who had traveled from Nigeria, dozens of cases have been confirmed in England, Portugal and Spain and beyond as far as the US.
Monkey pox is an infectious disease that can cause redness, fever, headache, muscle aches, and swollen lymph nodes.
According to the CDC, data have suggested that smallpox vaccines like Bavarian Nynic Jynneos are at least 85% effective in preventing monkeypox before exposure.
Experts believe that vaccination after exposure can prevent or reduce symptoms.
