All of Morocco is anxiously watching how the sad story of a 5-year-old boy who fell into a well near the northern city of Chefchaouen will end.

The child, identified by local media only as Rayan, appeared to be playing near the well when the accident happened.
He fell for about 32 meters in a fairly narrow space. Rescue operations, led by the Moroccan Directorate of Civil Defense, have continued since Tuesday evening.
Rescuers threw an oxygen, food and water mask at the 5-year-old in the well. A medical team is at the scene and a helicopter is on standby to take him to hospital immediately as soon as they manage to pull him out of the well.
The drama taking place in Tamrut has evoked painful memories in Italy, where a 6-year-old boy, Alfredino Rampi fell into a well on June 10, 1981, but that event ended in tragedy as despite the efforts of rescue workers, the child did not came out more alive from there.
