In Durrës, an elementary school teacher has made a massive mosaic with about 5 thousand plastic bottle caps collected by the students of her school.
The goal is simple, to convey an important message on the sustainable development of the environment in our country. There are an infinite number of ways to react in environmental protection, but teacher Marsida Mezja has chosen the best way, that of education through concrete actions.
“The main message is” The tree that has the roots of education, the fruit of a clean Albania. Everything is achieved by recycling. Durrës is a city polluted by other cities as well. The Ishm estuary is polluted by cities such as Kruja, Tirana, Kamza and Vora and the schools of Durrës have joined together to clean the Ishëm River and protect it from plastic. ”
Full of passion and love for the profession and the protection of the environment from plastic, this teacher has become a source of inspiration for her students. Every day they bring to school plastic waste that is recycled, but some of them turn it into useful and completely original products, such as this clothing made by them.
“We did this with recyclable materials. With balloons, plastic bags and gloves. We also put on a mask to show that we are in a pandemic. The bag is with spoon and cardboard. Hats with plastic cups. “We made them show that we are strong children and can do many things together with our teacher.”
“Parents also help us. We also collect plastic from the sea. We go out and collect corks, together with our parents. ”
“It’s a beautiful thing we like.”
Where do you collect plastics? “The sea and mom’s work and billiards. Mom and Dad help me. ”
Differentiated waste collection has started as a novelty in this school and many other schools in Durrës, engaging students and parents for a clean environment, especially the cleaning of the coast and the estuary of Ishm, the most polluted in the country by waste and plastic. Teacher Marsida admits this is a challenge.
